Course Description

Population ageing is a pertinent issue of society. Evidence based policy making requires ability to extract insights from appropriate datasets. This course is designed to introduce one of the world’s largest ageing databases, the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI). LASI is one of the sister surveys of Health and Retirement Study (HRS) of the US and comparable with similar surveys conducted around different regions and countries. The course will use applied techniques to learn the LASI database and the participants are expected to initiate their own study. During the course, the participants will also learn the basics of data management, and analysis using STATA software.

Expectations and Goals

By the end of the course, course participants will develop skills in how to conduct basic statistical analysis in line with research article publications in scientific journals. Since LASI is an ongoing prospective study, it is expected that a better understanding of it will be useful from policy perspective in future.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Introduce participants to the STATA analysis software and its core features.
  2. Familiarize participants with the structure of LASI wave 1 data.
  3. Provide hands-on exercises using published papers in scientific journals based on LASI.

Prerequisites

Personal Computer (PC) with stable internet connection. The participants are expected to have STATA software installed on their PC.
